How to play Ludo

Ludo gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Look at what changes after your first action. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Compare the situation with the worked example. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
