How to play Memory Pairs

Start Memory Pairs by looking at the playing area and its controls. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Use the example below to understand a decision.

A careful first round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

Seeing a star at the top left and another star in the bottom row gives you a matching pair on a later turn. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
